DeSean J. Rodgers was born on March 1, 1984 in Newark, New Jersey. He grew up in a single-parent household with 2 younger brothers and 1 sister. DeSean participated in many activites as a child and enjoyed a diverse group of influences, ranging from sports, music, art, science and math. He always felt like music was a message and sought out to find the different meanings. When Lauryn Hill released her MTV Unplugged album in 2001, DeSean took noticed to two particular songs, "Mystery of Inequity" and "Freedom Time", two spoken-word pieces recited over an acoustic guitar song. DeSean was moved to begin writing his own "spoken-word pieces" and has since written over 500 poems.
DeSean describes himself as a free-verse writer because he doesn't like to be held back. Subsequently, most of his writings have no meter or distinct rhyme scheme and are somewhat similar to prose rather than poetry. When reading his writings, DeSean asks the reader to create their own rhythm and picture from the words that he has supplied you. He asks that the reader, "see it as they will see it" based on their own perception. This is why is frequently uses the pen name, Point_of_View. DeSean finds inspiration from just about everywhere, whether it be a scene from the movie, "Dead Poet's Society" or a sample of J.S. Bach's "Fugue in D Minor", an experience with a loved one or a politically driven emotion, DeSean has a muse from everywhere or sometimes nothing at all.
With a love for GOD driving his will to write, DeSean has shared his poetry with thousands of people, as a writer, spoken-word performer, columnist and simply as a friend. His passion is evident in all his writings because as he puts it, "I write from the heart with the mind not TOO far behind." DeSean J.
